The only way to cool off this week is with an icy frozen beverage. Frozen Margaritas have come a long way and include exotic flavors, vegetables and spicy accents. Try finding your chilled vibe with these cool drinks.
Sweet and Vicious (5 Spring Street) Frozen Margaritas served in mason jars are lovingly handcrafted at Sweet and Vicious. They offer seven Frozen Margaritas including Jalapeno Tequila and Mango. The cool orange art-deco atmosphere inside is a relaxing place to hide from the heat. Save money at the bar Sunday through Thursday from 2-7 p.m. and Fridays from 2-6 p.m. You’ll get $2 off Margaritas and Well Drinks and $1 off Draft and Bottled Beers. Make your way to the hidden backyard with your frozen treat to keep frosty all summer long. They are known for strong drinks, friendly bartenders and DJs after 10 p.m. The bar is a mix between a hip lounge and a dive bar that attracts a younger crowd after happy hour.
Arriba Arriba (762 Ninth Avenue) If you’ve strolled down Ninth Avenue, you’ve seen the happy crowds at Arriba Arriba. They offer four sizes of Frozen Margaritas in more than a dozen flavors. Four ounce drinks are $4, twelve ounces are $10, sixteen ounces are $14 and the twenty seven ounce Mama Margarita is $20. Order the Mama Margarita with cucumber and dill and watch the heat disappear. Enjoy $6 twelve ounce Frozen Margaritas all night long on Mondays. On Tuesdays fill up with 25% off all Tacos and Empanadas from 4 p.m.-close. On Wednesdays take advantage of all day happy hour prices and order $5 draft and bottled beers on Sundays. Brunch on weekends is $16.95 including one cocktail.
Mother’s Ruin (18 Spring Street ) Mother’s Ruin is the perfect blend of your favorite local dive bar and masterful cocktail temple. The slushy machine on the bar, called the Kathleen Turner, cranks out a different frozen cocktail daily. I’m told “she makes the best drinks.” Don’t ask questions and try whatever she is churning out. They always surprise with frozen beverages with unexpected combinations of flavors. They offer brunch everyday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and dinner until 4 a.m. Try the tasty French Onion Soup with Grilled Gruyere Cheese ($14) for brunch or dinner. It’s a cozy place with only a few bar seats and tables. Mother’s Double Cheeseburger with aged cheddar and mama’s secret sauce, served with waffle fries and spicy ketchup ($15, add thick cut bacon for $2), is another great reason to visit.
