It’s nice to live where other people vacation. We are so fortunate to have so many events at our fingertips. No matter where you are on the Fourth of July, be sure to tune in for Macy’s Fireworks. Nobody does it better or with more grandeur. If you’re in town this weekend take advantage of deals and act like a tourist for the day.
Macy’s Fireworks The 41st Annual Macy’s Fireworks will light up the sky on Tuesday featuring the West Point Band and Glee Club. They will blast from five barges on the East River between East 24th and East 41st Streets. The public viewing areas will be the elevated portions of the FDR Drive. Check out the map for prime viewing locations. The broadcast starts at 8 p.m. on NBC. The twenty five minute show will also feature Lady Antebellum.
FUN FACT: The fireworks are launched three times higher than the Statue of Liberty.
Leave Rochelle Out of it (205 Chrystie Street) Rochelle’s is a good old fashioned drinking hole with great pub grub. On Tuesday happy hour lasts all night with $5 drinks and beer and shot deals. If you’re hungry order the pair of loaded dogs for $10. Tuesday through Friday and all night Monday, visit from 4-8 p.m. for $2 off well drinks, beer and wine. There is no pretense or snotty attitudes at Rochelles, just good strong drinks and a fun crowd.
South Street Seaport Museum (12 Fulton Street) is hosting Freedom Fest on Pier 15 on Tuesday. All guests will receive four hours of premium open bar from 7-11 p.m. and a full summer barbecue buffet for $109. You can’t get much closer to the fireworks. Bring a blanket and settle into this comfortable setting while celebrating America’s birthday. If you want something a little more low key, hang your hat at one of the many restaurants at South Street Seaport. Try El Luchador for Mexican tacos and margaritas or Industry Kitchen for wood-fired pizzas.
