I can’t believe the summer is coming to a close. While I’m excited for fall football eats and pumpkin everything, I’ll miss the empty New York City restaurant scene. Before everyone comes back from the beach, visit some of these places on Labor Day for that last bit of chill summertime vibe.
Pinks (242 East Tenth Street) This speakeasy bar behind the Body Shop will be serving up a Sunday feast on Labor Day. For $30, guests can fill up on unlimited tacos and as many select draft beers as you can kick back, starting at 2 p.m. Pinks is tucked neatly off a busy corner only revealing it’s magic to those who venture in and take a chance. They offer a great variety of music ranging from blues to punk, rock to soul-funk, and live bands. Pink’s offers a tasty bar menu inspired by the authentic Mexican cuisine of Southern California. During the week from 5-8 p.m. all beers are $5, house drinks are $6 and wines are $7. Every Tuesday test your musical knowledge and play rock n’ roll bingo. Brunch on weekends starts at $9 with an option for a two hour bottomless brunch for $32.
Sagaponack Bar and Grill (4 West 22nd Street) If you want to pretend you’re in Southampton, head to Sagaponack in the very un-Hamptons-like Flatiron district. Every day from 4-7 p.m., pair $5 draft beer and wines with $1 oysters, $1 little neck clams, $5 fried lobster ravioli and $9 mussels in white wine. Plan on making dinner out of this plentiful happy hour. Rest assured, noone at the beach is eating $1 oysters like these. The menu features rotating specials that constantly change throughout the seasons. Selections range from Whole Lobsters ($26) to a Half Pound Wagyu Burger ($19). For fall, order their signature Paella with clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops, calamari, chorizo and saffron rice ($26) with a glass of sangria.
The Watering Hole (106 East 19th Street) On Labor Day and every Monday through Friday from 12-8 p.m., visit the Hole for a $2 happy hour menu with sliders, hot dogs and popcorn chicken, as well as $5 drafts, well drinks and wines. They host comedy on Tuesdays, karaoke on Wednesdays, in addition to speed dating and trivia nights. As an Atlanta Falcons bar, they get packed during football season with nine TVs and game day deals like $5 drafts. They specialize in juicy burgers, crispy fries and spicy buffalo wings. If you’re looking for a local casual joint with all the pub grub and bad-for-you appetizers you desire, spend your day off at The Watering Hole.
