Oktoberfest Beer Halls
Fall weather get me excited for one of my favorite beverages, pumpkin beer. I love all things pumpkin and the autumnal selections found at beer halls everywhere. Oktoberfest is a great time to check out beer halls and seasonal specials.
Clinton Hall (230 East 51st Street) One of the newest additions to the Beer Hall landscape is opening on March 16th. Tucked inside The Pod Hotel, Clinton Hall is a 3,000 square foot restaurant with an industrial layout and an outdoor garden. They are striving to make if feel like an adult playground with over sized Jenga games, Connect 4 and TV’s in every corner. There are twenty drafts beers including ten Supercraft beers brewed to Brew Master specs. They actually have a Flux-Capacitor to calibrate and adjust the compression of each beer. To pair with the beers are twenty unique burgers to wet your palate. My favorites are the Salmon and Duck Chorizo burgers. Their desserts are sure to bring you back to childhood with large waffles and ice cream concoctions all sprinkled with candied goodness. Cheddar and scallion waffle fries and homemade chili round out the menu.
West End Hall
) West End Hall features a down home interior with a backyard garden that feels like you’ve entered into an undiscovered gem while surrounded by walls of ivy. They feature thirty bottles and twenty draft selections from all over the world. The menu is infused with a unique gourmet spin on traditional beer hall cuisine, including Grilled Mahi Mahi Fish Tacos ($16) and the succulent West End Hall Totally Truffle Burger ($14) with caramelized onions and mushrooms. Appetizers for the table include Buffalo Cauliflower ($11) and Southern Chix Sliders ($13). They get a nice stroller crowd on weekends during the day. Monday through Friday from 3-7 p.m. enjoy $5 drafts, well drinks, wine and appetizers. Try the Fully Loaded Tots ($10) with bacon, sour cream, scallions, cheese and a fried egg for a unique take on an old standard.
(222 West Houston Street
) Another massive hidden treasure downtown is Houston Hall. They get many a day drinker in the summertime with lines out the door so visit now in the chilly weather. All day Monday and Tuesday through Friday from 4-7 p.m. relax with $6 half liter steins, wine and specialty drinks. Let the party continue with $6 Hurricane Wings, Fried Pickles and Classic Grilled Cheese plus $2 Beef or Pulled Pork Sliders. All the grilled sandwiches are inventive like the Milk Truck Classic with Aged Wisconsin, Gruyere, Caramel Onions and Sautéed Mushrooms on Pullman Bread ($11.50).
