Slim Down in 2020

Gu Japanese Fusion Sushi NYC 365 Guide New York City 2020Another Holiday season behind us and another opportunity to drop those too-much-partying pounds. Although the celebrations were delightful, they take a toll on the waistline. Join me in slimming down with some great sushi meals in January.

Gu Japanese Fusion Sushi Bar (155 East 52nd Street) Gu’s fresh menu is massive with seafood choices and combo platters to delight. Sushi dinners start at $18 and kitchen entrees like Shrimp Teriyaki are $19. All items include a Miso Soup or Salad. Their Spicy Tuna ($6.50) and Yellowtail Jalapeno Rolls ($6.95) are my go to favorites. It’s a great pick for a late lunch if you work in Midtown East. Gu has a cool atmosphere with dim lighting and tables spaced appropriately so you can actually have a conversation. They offer happy hour daily from 3- 10 p.m. with beer, sake, wine and cocktails up to 50% off. Visit for lunch from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. and take advantage of two rolls for $11.50 or three rolls for $14.50.

Nomando 33Nomado 33 Sushi NYC 365 Guide New York City (165 East 33rd Street) Nomado offers a lunch special from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. with two rolls for $10.95 or three rolls for $13.95 with soup and salad. Be warned, they also have an All-You-Can-Eat Sushi Rolls option for $29 per person. This is a nice opportunity if you’re having one large meal a day plus you’ll get rewarded with significant savings. With more than four dozen choices, you’ll definitely need to exercise some self control not to blow the diet.
