New York City has a plethora of classic steakhouses serving supreme cuts of meat. I’m always up for a good steak, but it’s nice to have options. Restaurants may be known for perfectly grilled steaks, but better know for a well rounded menu and unique specialties. Bring carnivores and vegetarians together at a meal at one of this weeks picks. A chef that knows how to sear a steak is a real bonus.
TBar Steak and Lounge (1278 Third Avenue) TBar’s menu is completely diverse with seafood, steaks, gourmet burgers and creative salads. Was my steak cooked perfectly? Yes! But my taste buds were also tingling for Salmon Ceviche, Seared Wasabi Tuna and Veal and Beef Meatballs. You will definitely need to visit more than once to make your way through the menu. Trust me when I tell you to save room for dessert. You won’t want to, but they are big enough to share. The modern bright lounge is both sexy and comfortable. Request the upstairs dining room if you prefer a more intimate experience. In addition to tasty wines by the glass (try the Bordeaux Blend), they also serve creative cocktails if you just want to grab a drink at the bar after work and unwind.
ChimiChurri Grill (2 locations) This Argentinian menu goes way beyond standard Latin fare. The La Suprema, six ounce filet mignon burger, pan seared with caramelized onions, and the New York Strip Bife Con Fritas are top notch meat choices if you’re in the mood. Chimichurri Grill delivers grass-fed black angus steaks, sustainable fish, lamb, poultry and pork, homemade desserts, a premium full bar featuring made from scratch cocktails, and a skillfully appointed wine list with the very best varietals from Argentina. Visit from 4-8 p.m. daily at the bar for discounted drinks. If that’s not enough, they also offer several homemade pastas every day, grilled oysters and shrimp ceviche. I like to make a meal ordering just appetizers. You can put their chimichurri sauce on ice cream and it’s still delicious.
The Sea Fire Grill (158 East 48th Street) The Sea Fire Grill is a special occasion destination that delivers on all levels. A sister restaurant to Benjamin Steakhouse, they’ve moved beyond beef to conquer the seafood market. They serve locally-sourced, contemporary American seafood where the fresh fish itself is the star. You will also find Filet Mignon Steak Tartare and four twenty eight day USDA dry aged steaks. The menu boasts an impressive listing of classic cocktails like the Sazerac and Old Fashioned, but those looking for a cocktail adventure can opt for the Thyme Will Tell that combines Kentucky bourbon with thyme and Vermont maple syrup. Try the Fish Tacos, Jumbo Lump Crab Cake or Truffle Burrata as an appetizer. They have set the bar high to become experts at all things food. Book a babysitter and treat yourself to an elegant evening.
