The wine bar craze is a craze for a reason. I love to graze at restaurants and wine bars are perfect for noshing. Not being a wine expert, it’s also fun to learn something about a new grape. They’re the perfect place for date nights and small groups of friends. I like to order a few appetizers then take a break, have some wine, and order a second round of appetizers to end my evening.
Aroma Kitchen & Wine Bar (E 4th & Lafayette Street) You’ll feel like you stepped into a small Italian farmhouse at Aroma. Brick walls, wooden tables and candle light make the perfect ambiance for a romantic evening. From 5pm-6:30pm daily, enjoy 1/2 off wine glasses and bottles. It’s $15 for a flight of three wines and an appetizer. I like to order a few dishes and share. I could keep ordering all night.
8th Street Wine Cellar (28 West 8th Street) I love the menu at 8th Street. It’s meant for sharing and full of good ideas with lots of variety. The bacon and figs with aged balsamic and mascarpone cheese is unbelievable. It sounds weird, but it’s anything but. The tuna sliders are another must have with spicy mayo. Daily from 4pm-7pm take advantage of $6 glasses and $18 bottles.
Bin 71 (237 Columbus Avenue) Always order the homemade pastas at Bin. The pasta melts in your mouth like butter. Bin 71 is the quintessential tiny European style wine bar. It’s small and intimate with bar seating. The staff can answer any question and help guide you to the perfect glass. In nice weather, they open onto the street with additional outdoor tables.
